Shifting Perspectives: Restoration and the Tree Druid’s future

Every Tuesday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting Druids and those who group with them. This week, rather than plagiarizing from Stephen Hawking, we plagiarize from ourselves, and for the second time in column history, we shelve our Previously Scheduled Guide in favor of an emergency summit wow goldconcerning Tree conservation. A question for Druids from Ghostcrawler himself; is Tree of Life form fun? I’d like to get the question a bit more exposure both here and on the forums, because it’s a thought-provoking issue. No other healer, as he observes, has to sacrifice anything in order to use a key talent in their healing tree/s, and from how Ghostcrawler’s worded his post, it seems pretty clear that the PvE and PvP healing output of the Restoration spec is explicitly balanced around the use of Tree of Life. That’s fine — it is our 41-point talent, and a good one at that. It’s not unreasonable for Blizzard to expect that we’ll use it. However, It does have implications for game balance when 3 of 4 healing classes retain all of their

Ghostcrawler hints at another patch before patch 3.2

With many of the major features of patch 3.2 having been announced, and a lot of people already somewhat bored with patch 3.1 content, and with the new dungeon/raid instance being a relatively simple “arena” format, many have been hoping that we’ll see a 3.2 PTR soon. However, it looks like we’ll have to wait a bit longer than hoped. In a recent post regarding adjustments to Druid set bonuses, Ghostcrawler let slip that a change would be coming “long before 3.2.” While it’s possible this could just be slipped in with other hotfixes, it does seem to imply that we can expect another bug fix and minor balance tweaking patch before 3.2 hits the servers. Of course, this is probably good news for those hoping for adjustments and fixes for their class or spec, but for those who just want more new stuff to do: Well, sorry, you may have to make those ulduar trips or Argent Tournament dailies last just a bit longer.

Bolfang and the future of the Horde and the Alliance

Warning: This article contains spoilers for the Wrathgate in-game event. So Callouse of Vashj posted a theory on the General Forums that is so elegant that I’m sort of ashamed I didn’t think of it myself. At the Wrathgate, we know that Arthas absorbed the soul of Saurfang the Younger into his sword. Evidence also points to the idea that he stole Bolvar Fordragon’s body. This has lead to rampant speculation that we will eventually fight one or both as thralls of the Lich King. But Callouse posits that we may end up seeing one and both at once. That is, we’ll see Saurfang the Younger’s soul in Bolvar’s body. This does a few things. First, it sort of ties the new Death Knights together with old in a neat little full circle way. The first Death Knights were created by Gul’dan by imbuing death human knights with the souls of Orc Warlocks. With Arthas creating what might possibly be his last Death Knight in this “old” style, it brings the story of class together in a final way. Secondly, it opens up some very nice story possibilities assuming

Around Azeroth: From her to eternity

Not a spelling error! Listen to Nick Cave! Anyway, Fyve of <Obsydian> on Aerie Peak-EU has decided to be a gallant lady and hold her guildmate Moosemaiden’s hand through the dangerous Malygos fight. Unfortunately, it looks like both of them have met an early demise, together forever in death. Or, for a more cynical opinion, maybe the blue drake mount dropped and Fyve decided that her Nesingwary 4000 was a better tool for handling loot disputes than DKP. Breakfast Topic: What do you think of the Wintergrasp changes?

Ah, Wintergrasp. The first ‘fun’ PvP content I’ve ever come across in-game. The first time I found myself in the Keep, around level 75, I wasn’t sure what I was supposed to do. All I knew for sure was that there were monsters outside the gates who smelled prime, young night elf and wanted my blood. Then a friend showed me how to max out my mining in an hour thanks to all the lovely nodes of saronite and titanium and I started to like the place more. I really got into the zone at 80 and found the battles immense fun and short enough even for my lax attention span. But, of course, there were problems. The Horde seem to out number us Alliance on my server and they’re also a hell of a lot more organised. For them, Wintergrasp isn’t just a sport, it’s a carefully planned massacre. but, despite the instability, the DCs, the insufferable lag, it was fun. But I was keen to find out if Blizzard had plans to fix the problems so I asked Tom Chilton. He he specifically mentioned the issues of Wintergrasp and that they didn’t think that the lag and other

Several Ulduar weapons buffed

Apparently a few tweaks to items were either too random or too last-minute to make it into the patch 3.1.2 notes. Three weapons have had their stats improved, “to match their appropriate item level:” Icecore Staff Boreal Guard Malice You can see a screenshot of the new stats at right. Additionally, eight weapons have had their speed changed, “to make them more optimized when used in PvE content compared to equivalent weapons obtained in the Arena.” I read that as “Arena weapons were too good, so we changed the speed on these ones to make them better.” Golden Saronite Dragon: 2.6 -> ? Remorse: 1.6 -> 1.5 Stonerender: 1.6 -> 1.5 Voldrethar, Dark Blade of Oblivion: 3.4 -> ? Dark Edge of Depravity: ? -> ? Aesir’s Edge: 3.5 -> ? Hammer of Crushing Whispers: 3.5 -> ? Caress of Insanity: 2.6 -> ? If anyone can fill in the question marks, please leave the information in the comments.

High-level ranged weapons getting buffed

Well-geared hunters, rejoice: you’re getting buffed. According to Ghostcrawler, hunter DPS is too low at the moment, so the damage of all ranged weapons with ilvl 226 or higher is being increased by about 30 DPS. This includes drops from Kel’Thuzad-25 and Ulduar-25, as well as Furious Gladiator gear and Ulduar-10 hard modes. This is estimated to result in an overall DPS increase for the wow goldhunter of “a few percent.” The reason this change ended up needing to be made has to do with what they wanted to do with ammo in patch 3.1. They had grand plans for an ammo revamp (which I don’t think they’ve ever quite revealed), and as a result they stopped designing new tiers of ammo, so raiding hunters now are stuck with the same bullets they were using at the start of Wrath. This change rolls the DPS from non-existent higher tiers of ammo into the weapons. Ghostcrawler also mentions that they think hunter DPS will need more improvement, and that there is another buff that they’re trying to roll out “sometime in the next couple of weeks.” We

Forum post of the day: Go blues!

Snaboo of Greymane shouted out to the Blizzard posters on the forums. He appreciates that they are being customer focused and social. This elicited positive responses from a handful of blue posters, except Bornakk, who’s still grumpy. Some posters disagreed about the attention the blues pay to the community. That they are slow to respond to “serious” questions or that they seem disrespectful of players. Crygil pointed out that in many cases there are several threads on a particular subject. The blues try to address at least one of them, but aren’t able to respond in all of the threads on a single topic. As for the types of responses, remember that blues are people too. Considering the amount of negative responses they get, I think they handle the forums with respectable grace. Their responses and comments should be considered in the context in which they were written. Keep in that the blues are limited to the information that they have and what they can share. As WoW has evolved over the years it is evident that the developers do pay attention to customer concerns.

Around Azeroth: Now I know my ABCs

Since you all liked our last massive UI glitch shot so much, I thought I’d throw up another one we recently received. Solitary of <Cerberus> on Ravenholdt-EU sent in this screenshot from a very different Tirisfal Glades. “I particularly like how my character’s face has been used as the texture for her shoulder,” she writes. “And the sky writing is just bizarre … maybe that pesky Orphan slipped some pills in my drink.” Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder?
