Around Azeroth: Jump in the line

Around Azeroth: Jump in the line We all knew that druids often cooperate cross-faction, but hunters? This multicultural line of hunters was witnessed by Lohrr of The Venture Company on the latest PTR, after beast mastery hunters gained the 51-point-talent ability to tame exotic pets. Among the most popular pets was the core hound, and the unique skin of the Kurken in the draenei starting area lured many hunters to Azuremyst Isle. Plus, who wants to go back to Molten Core? Instead of fighting for the tame, the hunters apparently made a line and helped each other out, frost trapping and /cheering after a successful attempt. If only the queue had been that orderly back when I was attempting to get the Core Hound Tooth! Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We’d love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next! Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it

Stalvan: The Early Years

Stalvan: The Early Years The first thing you really learn about Stalvan in the Legend of Stalvan quest line is that he apparently hailed from Silverpine Forest. Nothing is really known about his status or life there. It seems possible he was part of some noble family, since there is a Mistmantle Family Ring. He also lives in Manor Mistmantle, which could conceivably be an old family holding, although he may also have simply redubbed it that when he moved there. Regardless, any of Stalvan’s family that stayed behind in the area seem to have either succumbed to the Scourge or changed their name out of shame for his later deeds. At some point made his way to Stormwind to study under a Headmaster Crillian at an unnamed Academy. It seems likely he left somewhere around 7-10 years ago, since he was in Southshore during Thrall’s prison break according to the Caverns of Time. If he was heading straight to Stormwind, he would have been there soon after. What he was studying is unclear. Magic might be a possibility, but Dalaran would have been closer and more prestigious, and Stalvan

Messing with the last two tiers

Messing with the last two tiers This is an interesting design philosophy that shouldn’t just apply to the Paladin class but to all trees of all classes. I believe that Ghostcrawler was referring to making Tier 10 more appealing than just mere point-fillers in order to get to the whopper 51-point talent. For the most part, this is true. Players look at the 51-point talent with little regard for the 45-50 point filler. This applies less to Holy, where the haste bonus from Judgements of the Pure is a significant raid contribution self-buff (see what writing at 4am does to you…). On the other hand, Shield of the Templar in Protection is mediocre and Righteous Vengeance from Retribution can be skipped. The problem with Tier 10 in Wrath — as with Tier 8 in The Burning Crusade — is that most have only one 5-point talent. It’s feels like it’s pretty much only intended to reach the last tier. While avoiding the bloat, it would be nice to see more than one option for Tier 10 and one amazing power for Tier 11 that matches up competitively against 21-point talents.

Shifting Perspectives: New Druid Leveling – 6 through 10

Shifting Perspectives: New Druid Leveling – 6 through 10 Every Tuesday, Shifting Perspectives explores issues affecting druids and those who group with them. This week John Patricelli, sometimes known as the Big Bear Butt Blogger, continues the new Druid leveling guide with levels 6 through 10. So far in our series of Druid leveling tips, we started with preparing to play a Druid, and then covered the basic strategies of levels 1 through 5. Today we’re going to talk a little about weapon skills, Entangling Roots and your first real Druid specific challenge; the level 10 Bear Form quest chain. Go ahead and dive in after the break! Status Check; A-OK In our last article, we covered the basics of using Wrath, Moonfire, the 5 second rule and the concept of a planned combat sequence. There’s an old saying that no plan survives contact with the enemy, but having a practiced, well thought out approach to handling an enemy lets you free up your concentration for improvisation; once you have the basics down, go mix it up and have some fun. Try not to get too fixed on one plan,

A spec guide for classes that aren’t yours

A spec guide for classes that aren’t yours   Nowadays, you lucky kids have the Armory, and you can, on demand, look up the point-by-point spec of any player in the game. You can see who’s Fire, who’s Affliction, and who’s Resto at a moment’s notice, and gone are the days where you had to guess what spec a player was from the spells they cast. Or are they? I’d hazard a guess that most players don’t have the Armory on quick dial, and yet all players still encounter different specs of classes every single time they play. In an Arathi Basin, by the time you’ve looked up the other guy’s spec on the Armory, the game is over.   So it’s still valuable to know specs just by glancing at the spells players are casting, and this is a guide to help you do that. Want to know at a glance whether your main tank laying down Mortal Strike is really specced Protection as he says, or if he’s got a few extra points in Arms than he should have? Want to know if that Warlock who sent a Felguard after you in the battlegrounds is specced Demonology

Inscription to allow enchanters to sell on the AH

Inscription to allow enchanters to sell on the AH   Blizzard has been saying for a while that they’re working on letting Enchanters ply their trade via the Auction House. When the Wrath beta launched, we didn’t immediately see any way that this feature has been implemented. However, Elisalia, a beta-tester, wrote in to let us know that she’d figured it out. The link between Enchanters and the AH is going to be Inscription, and it looks like it will work as follows: ·                                 Inscriptors can create blank parchments, such as the Bleached Parchment seen in the picture. Each type of parchment works for one type of item to enchant — armor, weapon, etc. ·                                 Enchanters can cast enchantments on those parchments, to create, for instance, that Scroll of Enchant Cloak – Greater Defense. These scrolls can be listed on the AH, mailed, or traded like any other unbound item. ·                                 The scrolls

Final Thoughts

Final Thoughts As a class, Death Knights are shaping up to be very fun and unique, but they could also use some tweaking, as you can see, especially if the PvP and Tanking areas. Hopefully, a little bit more attention can be bought to our PvP plight when Lake Wintergrasp and the new Battleground and Arenas go in for testing (primarily, we need a baseline reliable snare to keep our enemies in range of melee), and hopefully we get a bit more help on the tanking end — Specifically, I’d like to see our “reactive abilities” such as Bone Armor and Unbreakable Armor switched to runic power so that they can be truly reactive and not dependent on rune cooldowns and more innate avoidance and mitigation overall. Forceful Deflection going baseline is definitely a good start on the latter. Regardless, it looks like the next build may change the way Death Knights play in some very significant ways, so it may be that we’ll have to wait until it’s on the Beta servers and we can play it before we know the true state of the Death Knight. For now, I leave you with a few

Blizzard WWI: Wrath of the Lich King & StarCraft 2 Q&A

Blizzard WWI: Wrath of the Lich King & StarCraft 2 Q&A At the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational, I had the opportunity to sit in on a private press conference with members of the World of Warcraft and Starcraft 2 development teams. The session was informal in the format of a question and answer panel, however a lot of great information was passed around. Starcraft 2 Question: How set is the tech tree? Answer: Right now, the tech tree consists of what the designers thing is best. However, there will consistently continue to be change as the game proceeds through testing phases. Q: What has been the reaction from people playing the demo? A: Overall, the reaction has been very good. People are enjoying the current demo. Q: What are the developer feelings on the overall unit mix at this time? A: In general, the mix is pretty good right now, however there is still some work to be done and some things to be added. Q: We’ve noticed some problems finding an artistic identity in some of the super units? Any thoughts or progression on this? A: Many of the units have their own kit,
